OUTPUT 3: Pedagogical format for the development of blended courses
3.1 Pedagogical format
This video shows the EFESE pedagogical format. The elements that make up a blended course are illustrated with a practical example.
3.2 Posters on blended learning
This is a recompilation of 12 posters presented during the EFESE training event in Leuven (February 2016). The aim was to share and learn from practical examples of blended learning in diverse fields (within and outside social security, national and international).
3.3 Trainees’ manual: introduction to the training
This short manual provides an overview of the EFESE intensive programme for teaching staff (Leuven, February 2016). It was useful to provide the trainees with basic information to prepare them for the training.
3.4 Open-access manual on the EFESE IT/pedagogical format
The ‘EFESE Blended Learning Manual’ is accessible to everybody via the CourseSites platform. It explains a set of technical and pedagogical guidelines for blended learning, as defined in the EFESE project. This manual targets the public in general and, particularly, teaching staff in any study field.
3.5 Templates for course development
EFESE has created Word templates for the development of blended courses. Authors of courses can copy-paste these templates and enter the required information. The use of templates facilitates and secures certain standardization in the structure of the courses.
3.6 Questionnaire for the evaluation of instructional videos
This questionnaire was constructed to collect the attitudes of students towards videos used during their instruction. The questionnaire went through several improvements and adaptations. It started with one single question and developed into 14 questions providing a more complete overview of the student’s experience with the instructional videos.
3.7 Report on the evaluation of instructional videos
In order to improve the EFESE IT/pedagogical format, valuable feedback was collected from the end-users, who had accessed several lesson videos. The results of two pilot tests are presented. The first one with 22 students at the University of Tilburg and the second one with 38 students at the University of Ljubljana.
3.8 Report on the evaluation of a blended course
The report uses graphics to illustrate the results of a pilot test. A course, developed within the parameters set the IT/pedagogical format, was tested with a small group of students. Research questions and methods: 1) Was the instruction implemented as it was designed? Observation. 2) How did the learners feel about the instruction? Attitudes questionnaire. 3) Did the learners achieve the goals of the instruction? Pre-test & post-test. 4) How much time did it take for the learners to complete the instruction? Study load sheet.
3.9 Report on the implementation of the EFESE format in the teaching practice
Courses and materials made on the basis of the EFESE format have been provided to teachers and students at different European universities. This document reports on cases where the EFESE format was used in the teaching practice. It also indicates when an evaluation of the course/materials took place. A list of new courses in progress is provided at the end.
3.10 Proposal to apply the EFESE format in the Master of European Social Security
This is a concrete proposal to maintain the project results after the end of the EU funding. It aims at developing the existing Master of European Social Security (MESS) towards a joint programme by strengthening the involvement of the actual EFESE-network in the MESS and applying the EFESE format to transform the existing MESS courses into the blended approach.
