2021 YOUNG RESEARCHERS SCHOOL
After the postponed edition of 2020, the European Institute of Social Security was pleased to host the 2021 Young Researchers School in Spetses, Greece. The event was a great succes, which gathered 18 participants from all over Europe, spending an intensive week together discussing their research, presenting their work and attending lectures. Afterwards, the participants returned home with new insights and interesting connections.
Who? Researchers working on a project and PhD students researching in the broad field of social security have the opportunity to learn more about social security and research methodology, while discussing their own research with fellow researchers and experienced teachers from all over Europe.
What? The Young Researchers School offers a hybrid course on methodology and comparative research, with a focus on social security.
All participants participated in an online module with a focus on methodology. This was designed to help them to outline their research project.
Later, all participants gathered on location where they had the opportunity to present their research, and receive feedback from their fellow participants as well as professors and lecturers who are renowned experts in the field of social security. These discussion sessions have proven to be extremely beneficial to starting researchers. At the end of the YRS, all participants received a certificate of participation.
When? The Young Researchers School started with an online track managed from Leuven with access in July. The gathering in Spetses ran from 12 to 18 September.
Where? The online track is managed from Leuven. For the gathering at the end of the programme, a different philosophy applied: in order to create an optimal environment for a productive and inspiring week, the Young Researchers School took a distance from the rush of daily life and was organized at an idyllic location. In 2021, it took place on the beautiful island of Spetses in Greece.
