Background
(from the conference website)
Family structures in all industrial and post-industrial societies are changing rapidly, as is the economic security that is granted or can be granted within families. Social security systems are challenged to react to these changes, for they shape current developments and also set the course for the future.
The 2019 EISS conference highlighted current changes in family structures and discussed models to cope with these changes. How do benefit systems react to these new challenges? How can the reconciliation between work and family life be guaranteed? And how can cross-border constellations that affect families be managed? Questions like these were examined from the perspective of social security in a comparative approach.
Short overview
From 26-27 September, the EISS along with the Chair of Prof. Dr. iur. Thomas Gächter welcomed the participants for its annual conference. As with previous editions, experienced professors, researchers and professionals in the field of social security were complemented by a number of young and upcoming researchers. With many interesting contributions that allowed for vivid discussions on the concept of 'the family' and the range and goals of social security, as well as presentations from young researchers at an exceptionally high level, the conference can be considered a great success.
